After taking off my propshaft whilst changing to a th200r4, i noticed that i can rotate my diff yoke about 3/8" with the wheels stopped from rotating. Is this too much rotational play or is it inside acceptable tollerances for a LSD.

The diff makes no noise or whine whatsoever, but does have slight backlash when going from rev to drive. Would this be play in the gears or in the clutch pack.
Thanks Peter
Might be clunk in the 1/2 shaft joints rather then the diff. The backlash is in the gears. The sloppy posi clutches usually hammer in corners.
All the u.j's are good i checked them first. I have had problems twice in the past where i have had to have the internal circlips on the driveshaft yokes changed once and then got the heavy duty yokes installed when the same happened again. Is this a common fault on vettes? when you jack up the car the half shafts pull out of the diff 1/4" to 3/8" where the circlip has come off.
I have added two bottles of additive about four years ago to stop a clunking noise i had after having the yokes changed last time when the work was done by someone else and it stopped clunking at slow start off speed but only when i put the second bottle in.

it's not common for the snap rings to come off. It does happen. There are several out there. Some have one side with a chamfer on the ID and that should go to the yoke, the other side should be straight and go toward the yoke end. Some have no chamfer on them. There are 3 thickness rings that I've seen used. I like the ones that are about .060-.065 thick.
If the posi is tuned then the yoke usually require face grinding to set the endplay. Using a replacement yoke with a stock posi will still be too loose and the endplay may fall in the .030-.050 range- all depending on how the posi was setup.
Peter,
Of course without seeing or driving the car it's hard to say, but based on what you said it probably will be ok. If the lash was real bad you'd hear a howl or whine- same with the bearings. If it's quiet and runs fine leave it alone until you're ready to rebuild it yourself.
Hi jeremy,
Happy new year to you too,
Just getting ready for all my pressure test with the new box at the moment.
I have done it myself, so far, it was a bigger job than i expected and has taken a couple of weekends longer than i thought it would, but i'm nearly there now.
Once i do the pressure tests, and give them to BTO, they will let me know if it's o.k. to test drive. Can't wait.
See you soon.
