Default tech tips on door handle removal

So I am at the point where everything else is stripped down on my car except for the lock and door handle. I have looked at the diagrams in the AIM and such and out of fear I have not attempted the removal as of yet. Anyone have any tips... notes... words of wisdom on these???
TIA!

I just replaced both door handles on my '72. I looked over the AIM and then went straight at it. The best tip I can give you is to remove the 3 screws that hold the latch in place. This will give you some room to gain better access to the rear nut that holds the door handle into the door.

Also, you will need to pry loose the line from the door handle to the latch. Be careful here so you don't loose the retaining clip.

When I installed the new door handles, I had to readjust the threaded part of the linkage that attaches to the door latch. If there is any pressure on this linkage, the door latch will not release. Make sure to test the door latch without physically closing it.

P.s. take a good look at the back of your hands now, because they won't look that way for too long....
Good luck,
Dino

This is the best advice. Let the latch hang down on the linkage rods while you remove the handle. Since we all have big, manly hands, this will allow yours to fit.
