Default '68 Windshield Wipers

The windshield wiper motor on my ’68 does not work. I have ran a few tests with a meter and believe that there is a problem with the ground. I have an assembly manual with a wiring diagram; however it is not very good. Does anyone have some suggestions and a diagram that I can take a look at?

There is an interlock switch associated with the wiper door.... make sure that it is functioning properly. It closes contact when the wiper door is extended fully... It is to prevent operation with the door closed.

Thanks, I have tested that button mentioned. The diagram I have also shows a wiper motor solenoid. I think it is under the console. It also appears in the diagram that the wires to the switch on the dash go to the heater. Is that correct? What is the relationship between the two?

First thing to do is eliminate any potential ground problem by using a clip lead and physically grounding the case of the wiper motor. You will know instantly if it is a ground problem. Then go on from there.

Default Gnd the Wiper Switch !

The Wiper switch must be Gnded. to work the wipers, bad design,
normally it has a little wisker haging off of it to gnd. the switch assy.
poor at best. Good Luck ! 69Vett

Here's a bench-test diagram that came with my w/w motor when I had it rebuilt. Might be useful

Also make sure the **** below the steering column is grounded(the one between the push-pull vacuum switches).

Unless the **** = Bypass Switch.
Is different on a 68 vs a 69 the "**** = Bypass Switch"
Does not require Gnd. it simply is a switch for 12volts,
either it is open or (closed = passing12volts)
1 side should be 12v with IGN. ON, twist the **** and you should have 12 volts on both sides.

Good advice all.
I have a 71 so keep that in mind because the 68 may be different.
1. The wiper switch wires have nothing to do with the heater circuit. It may look weird on the schematic.
2. Underdash over-ride switch(mentioned above)
3. Direct ground to the wiper motor (mentioned above) the factory gnd is down at the blower motor in the engine compartment (maybe this is the heater circuit confusion on the schematic).
4. When the wiper door opens there is a switch on the firewall that feed power to the wiper motor only when the door is open all the way.
5. Check your center console where the switch housing screws to. If this is cracked then the switch will not have a ground return path. You can jumper directly to the switch to test that.
6. Wiper relay (mentioned) under center console (on '71's at least).

I have a troubleshooting paper somewhere. I'll dig it up and get it to you if you want it.

EDIT - FOund a link for you

Thank you guys for the pointers. I’ll check them out and get back to you after I have eliminated potential problems.
