Default 383 Upgrade: What else do I need?

If I were to upgrade to a 383, rated at 450hp and 475tq, what else would I need?

The one I'm thinking of is the CH383PC40 engine. The specs are in this article:
http://www.hi-techengine.com/images/...ce_engines.pdf

My vette is a '78 Indy with a TH350 transmission.
Would I need to change the stall converter? (I dont know what stall speed the stock one has). What kind of stall converter would I need if so? I'd like the car to retain good street manners.

Also, would the Th350 handle the new engine fine?

Any other drivetrain changes I would need? Changing the U-joints? anything else?

Is the drive train all original? (30 years old) You're doubling the HP and torque, at least. You need to upgrade, rebuild or replace everything.
You should have at least a 2500 rpm stall speed converter, rebuilt trans with shift kit etc, solid U joints, all 6, and rebuilt differential (posi unit, bearings, stub axles etc and new ring and pinion, at least 3.55. Otherwise you will not be able to utilize the new engine effectively.

Your vehicle is 30 years old, and the 78's were never available with the high powered big blocks as were the earlier chrome bumper cars. Your trans and diff will definitely need some work for a 450hp stroker.

As you pull things out of your car, you'll come across items which either require replacement, or would look much better if replaced....
engine mounts, hoses and fittings, water pump etc.... You might find your radiator isn't adequate, or the alternator may have a bearing issue....those fan belts might look suspect once removed...

And that's NOT counting the time and money you may have to spend getting everything running right once installed.....

After you've added up the cost of all the bits and set your budget.... add another 25% for all the unexpected sundries.

That's when you begin to feel uneasy about the amount of money you've poured in, and the typical resale value you might get on your car...... very easy to over capitalise when modding cars.

my computer here won't open pdf's and I'm too lazy to install it...defintaley get some aluminum heads and get that motor some compression.....depending on your cam you'll prob definatley need a higher stall to get the most out of the motor....I have a 2800-3200 B&M. I thought my 30 yr old trans should handle the motor (not really sure how much hp/tq I'm pushing, but my buddy who races drag cars says around 430-450ish hp. I personally think it's less, but then again I've never driven a 9-10 sec. 1/4mile car) Any who within about 6 months of some somewhat hard driving, the trans lost 1stgear so right now it's out and I have a TCI street fighter trans I gotta put in sometime soon.

The parts I used for my 383 are in my signature below. Hope this helps and yeah, do calculate in all the other misc parts/expenses. When I did mine, everything but the distributer and rocker arms got replaced. water pump, alt., belts, battery, intake, carb, you name it!
