Hi Guys, I found that the rear window in my 78 was at one time leaking. Someone sealed it up from the outside with silicone and seemed to fix the leak but I was thinking of removing the rear glass and resealing it properly.
Has anyone done this? Do you remove it with a windshield removal tool and reseal it with the butyl that is used for installing windshields?
I recently had a glass company do this job for me. I had it done
as when I removed the molding prior to repainting I broke some
of the clips. In order to replace the clips you have to remove
the window.
He used a large curved knife to remove the old adhesive. He then
used a putty knife to remove all the residual adhesive. Then
replaced all the clips (I purchased them from a GM dealer),
applied a special primer for the urethane, applied the urethane
and installed the window. Charge was $80.
If you remove the window I would replace all the molding clips
as they get brittle with age.
