Default 1976 headers

I'm working on a 1976 corvette. Right now I'm doing suspension plus new radiator and support. I noticed The exhaust at the crossover is in bad shape. I would like to put headers and duals on the car but in the future I am going to change the engine. My question is is it worth putting headers on now. Motor is stock L-48. I would like to put a 300 to 400 HP motor in.

I think it would be fine the true duals and the headers will only help this motor out til you get around to the new motor. Just make sure when you buy your headers you have that 300-400 HP crate motor in mind and buy more toward the demands of that motor. Also buy a insulated starter wrap and put it on with the headers or the first time you shut your car off with the headers you better not be planning on going anywhere for an hour or so cause the starter will be heat soaked

If you are redoing your exhaust, it doesn't make a lot of sense to do it twice. SO if you are thinkink headers in the future, might as well do it now. Stick with some 1 5/8 headers for that mild build.

What's your budget for headers, the Summit house brand is pretty good for less than $100. Check them out here: http://blog.scottsvettetalk.com/2007...g-headers.aspx

If you are after the ceramic coated ones, the Headman headers are decent as well. As for starter failure, just as a precautionary measure, just swap out the starter solenoid with a High Temperature rated one, I've never had a heat soaked starter issue with headers before. IMHO, this is probably more common with cheap rebuilt starters.

If your going to do headers... do it now, but buy a quaility set of ceramic coated inside and out, they last a very long time.. Also know what you want as far as a new motor goes, you dont want to buy standard headers now and puta "D" port head motor in later and need new headers. As far as a starter... buy a 3 hp mini starter, the car starts much better and the clerance around the headers is amazing.
I have headman ceramic and a mini starter without a wrap and never had a heat problem in regards to the starter..
