I am fighting 11-1 compression ratio and pump gas. I am having trouble with
engine after run. Is this a problem related to my comression ratio / fuel or am
I looking at another problem? Inital timing is at 8. 270H cam on a 383.
Unless you get some really high octane pump gas, my guess is that your compression ratio is too high for pump gas, which can cause run-on. I'm sure others will get more technical/specific about octane and compression.
Could also be a choke adjustment or that your idle speed is set too high. Warm it up, slow down the idle speed, readjust the mixture and try 'er again.
Hi Blake...
I have a 11:1 engine. I've had after run problems for 31 years.
Even in the days of "good" gas, all brands were not equal.
Check what the others have suggested first.
Since I have a 4-speed, as you shut off the engine, let out
the clutch enough to put a very slight drag on the engine.
It will stop like a stone.
If you have an automatic, try shutting engine off in drive.
I've screwed around with this for years. Too many variables.
Octane ratings vary.
Temperature of engine.
Carbon build up in engine.
Engine idle speed.
I just got used to doing the procedure described above.
