Default Supercharged C3's... How many are there?

I'm sure there's plenty of people running monster blowers sticking through the hoods on their sharks, but were any people able to set up a system that fit under the stock hood, or maybe something with a bit more rise, like an L88 or Stinger?

I don't hear much talk of blown C3's, so why not start it up. What are you using? Is it a kit, or did you assemble it yourself?

Okay, ready...... GO!!!

I'm copying Big G (do a search on him), centrifugal supercharger. Installing it this week.

Does this count? LS6 with a MagnaCharger Hot-Rod (Universal) Unit. Throw a set of heads and cam in and better than 500 to the rear wheels.

How about an old grainy one from last spring before it was completely finished. Give an idea of the rumble. This was posted before but what the heh!

No that does not count. That is cheating!!

Seriously that is the way to go. FI and a blower on modern power plant.

I think Z-man has one of the nicest setups I have ever seen, 406ci with a Whipple supercharger good for over 700HP if I remember correctly. It fits under his hood, he should find this thread

I have thought about a 6-71, or a 250 or 177 with a low profile elbow to the inlet and route plumbing to behind the alternator for a remote carb mount setup.....

How about costs?

I am going one rout already with my motor, but I'm curious to know....

Let's say you have a 76' L48 350, low compression, 8.5:1, and want to blow it. Let's say you go out and get an L88 hood for clearance, what are you really looking at?

What kinds of gains, what kind of engine mods for higher hp gains, what kinds of costs, etc?

I ask because FI interests me greatly, and while I know a good bit about turbos and their components, I don't know much about super chargers, other than what I can read at HowStuffWorks.com

Anyone want to educate me?

Default Gale Banks, turbocharging

.

One of the leaders in turbocharging, and I believe he set a Salt Lakes record with his turbocharged Vette well over 200 mph.

Google him

or a 75

I've thought about supercharging and see what happens. I think if tuned well and not a ton of psi...it might last a while.

I have no idea what direction I'd like to go with on my stock 75. Sometimes I think forced induction and sometimes I think high compression rebuild.

As a result...its stayed stock for many many years.

In the old days, there was a very low profile MagnaCharger (or MagnaCharger-like) unit that used side draft carbs (Webbers or Del Ortos) and would fit under the stock hood of a C3. I had seen a couple of these. I had even seen a car with two of these mounted side-by-side on angles, but don't think it was a Vette.

keep in mind that a lot of other components are needed to really take full advantage of the forced induction system. While "simply" installing a supercharger and putting 6psi into the plenum of an l-48 would result in power gains, fuel system upgrades, camshaft and valvetrain changes, exhaust system replacement, and headwork are required to start really taking advantage of the blower.

beyond that, the l-48 is not exactly the world's most heavily outfitted smallblock. forged rotating assemblies become pretty much standard equipment once you get into the forced induction world.

to properly build a long-lasting supercharged engine, you're looking at comparable prices to building high power naturally-aspirated smallblocks.
