It is interesting you mentioned that. I am working on something right now. I have a new wiper motor and washer pump cover from a 1980 vette. I have a new 1989 wiper switch that has the delay built in. It also has a nice back light. I am searching for a spot to install as it is a little bigger than the stock unit. I am also trying to figure out the wiring. Right now I pretty much know what wire goes to the motor, but I don't have the switch figured out. I need to get the harness plug that goes into the 1989 wiper switch to finish it out.
I don't blame you for replacing the clock. That's the only gauge I consider worthless, but that's the mechanic in me. I too prefer a fuel pressure gauge, and actually, I don't think it's useless at all. It's a good idea to monitor fuel pressure to make sure you're not over 7.5 psi and forcing fuel past the needle and seat. I just wish someone made a combo gauge with fuel pressure on one half and nitrous pressure on the other half. Maybe for folks with a blower or turbos, a boost gauge would go well there.
My gauges are still good, so no need to replace, but I would like to put a black faced fuel pressure gauge where the clock is. My lights are orange, which go with the orange exterior and dark orange interior.
Also, I've seen that Nordskogg has a digital gauge set to replace the original gauges in C3's, and they have the choice between green or red LED's. That would be pretty cool in a superVette like Merlin's, for example.
Actually, I will be running an Edelbrock Pro Flow multi port fuel injection unit. So I should see fuel pressure in the 45-50 psi range. That will be a critical thing to be aware of in the event I am having any driveability issues.
Plus, the radio has a clock.
Auto Meter makes a 2 1/16" black face. They come with different buttons to change color. I did not actually try the red cap, so I don't know if it is bright red, or that kind of orange glow. I am sure you could get it to match the stock gauge back light with very little trouble.
The digital gauges are really cool, but I was not sure how they would work in super bright direct sun light when the top is down.
I will post up some pics when I pop everything back into the car.
That's a nice look. I like the RPM guage especially - 10,000 rpm. YEEHAW!! I'm having a custom made 250 MPH speedo - you know, for those "extracuricular" runs...
