My son's 76 has a rebuilt title - and considering that the carb is off a '75 pickup I am guessing that the engine was not the one that came with the car.
He picked up a new harmonic balancer and it is about 1.25 inches thick. The one on the motor is about 2 inches thick. (I am guessing)
The real reason for this question is that I was walking him through removal steps and I asked him if he got to the crank bolt yet. I told him that that is the one in the center of the balancer and might be hard to get off. He then tells me - Oh I already took that off it was through the center of one of the pulleys.
The crank bolt has a large washer on it and does go through the middle of the pulley. The pulley is also held on by three bolts that go into the front of the balancer.
Balancers also come in different diameters as well, and he wants to make sure he has one for an internallly balanced 350 (assuming that is what the motor is) and not for an externally balanced 400.
