I recently looked at an '82 and noticed that when I put it in drive it sat down hard...to the point where I could feel the suspension bottom. When I put it in reverse it did the opposite. Any idea what the problem may be? Also, is there anything specific to this year I should look for? Thanks.

I think it needs some new parts, Spring, shocks etc. It shouldn't sit down so much that it bottoms out under normal conditions. That would mean when ever it shifts gears it would bottom out which is really dangerous.

Change out the Diff. cushion above the rear driveshaft u-joint.

Use the updated one for 80-82.
Also check rear spring & shocks.

How many miles on the car?
Bushings should be replaced when needed. Sounds like the car needs new bushings, shocks and springs as mentioned above.
If all is well, then it might just need some rear spring adjusting on the spring bolt. Look at the half shafts, they should be as close to parallel to the ground when in gear under acceleration.

My '82 squats hard whether the idle is 500 or 1100. Doesn't seem to matter.

Maybe it has something to do with the 700R4 trans and the extremely low (granny) first gear... I don't know.

But it doesn't seem to effect the cars performance. It has has a great ride, has never bottomed out and corners like it's on RAILS!!!
