I'm looking for a new ignition and door lock set for my 69 Vette. I looked in the Corvette Central on-line catalog and it shows a set at $58.99. I looked at the Ekler's on-line catalog and it shows a set at $39.99. What's the difference? In my years of working on vintage Mustangs, I've found that most parts houses have similar pricing, with only a few bucks between them. Why is Corvette Central $19 higher than Ekler's? Is there something I should know here beyond the prices?
In the past few years I believe Ecklers has begun selling a lot of crap and that may explain the lower price. Frankly, I'd avoid them. On the other hand, I've never had any problems with CC.
I have purchased both from Eckler's and CC with CC being the vendor of choice between the two. What I find odd is ordering a part from a vendor and finding they bought the part from another vendor and put their part tag over the other vendors tag. Case in point I ordered a part from Eckler's and right below their tag is Corvette America's tag! You might want to check Doc Rebuilds for your lock set. They sell excellent quality parts with competitive pricing.
The reason you can find one on the website is that we do not currently have a reliable source for a quality switch, so we are not carrying it at the moment.
I believe locksets are still available through Standard Ignition Co, sold at most independant auto parts stores. The high prices are typical from Vette Vendors. They forget their not the only game in town.
Try Paragon Reproductions in Michigan, they carry both good replacement parts for NCRS and the cheaper replacement parts. I have ordered from them many times and had nothing but great service.
