To say it is "not uncommon" would be the same as saying this condition is common and it's not. Not to single you out for the statement but I hear about the "stuck thermostat" all the time but I have never had one car do that, never. And I've owned many Corvettes and dozens of other cars over thirty five years of driving. I guess if someone totally egnored the coolant age, let the system turn into brown rusty water, without any inhibitor package remaining, the metal stat could rust and seaze up, but is that a problem with a stat or an owner? And if this happened, the fans may not run, but as mentioned, your gauge would tell you there was a problem.
