Default Header clearance with Jeep Box

I have a SB with 1 3/4 Hooker headers in my car. How many of you guys with the Jeep boxes have had clearance issues with the 1 3/4 Hookers headers. Mine is tight right now with the stock steering box. Is it better or worse. I would prefer not to dimple the headers. Any pictures would help.

Try to dig up the old thread where Norval modified his frame for the Jeep box. He counter sunk the mounting surface with the Jeep box bolt pattern so it mounted to the frame and had more clearance. A bit involved but seems to me it worked great.

I have the Jeep box with the stock manifolds on my 81. Right now one corner of the box is just touching the heat shield for the manifold.

I saw this while looking through the archieves. He removed a section of the frame and welded in a new piece. This is more involved than most do. I do not have a welder and was hoping to get away with not doing this. Not that I don't want to mod the frame just more than I can do at the moment.

I have Hooker SB under car headers and they clear the jeep box with no problem using mounting like Corvette Steering.com uses. I can post a pic on Sunday if you want to see how much clearance I have. I had to remove the jeep box to get the engine with headers to drop in the chassis and then re-bolted the Jeep box in.

Mine has about 1/2 inch clearance with these headman side exit headers.

On my sons 73 with the same header and a ZZ 383 we had to dimple the header just a little bit. I don't have a explanation other than all these cars are not created equal.

My box should be here today so I'll try to mock it up this weekend and see how it fits. Thanks for the picture
