Default HVAC Box

Finishing up the rear end on my pace car this weekend. Next project is yanking the dash and replacing the heater core. It had ac at one time but the PO removed it. I am looking at putting it back in since I am going to have the box apart on both sides of the firewall. Anyone have any suggestions as to what all I need to replace inside there while I have it down? Also, is there a shelf life on any of these parts because I probably wont get the full system back in this year (gotta go see beautiful Afghanistan in a couple of months) or do I just make sure all the lines are sealed? I admit I dont know much about the ac system other than I can tell if its working or not so any and all advice is appreciated.

By the way, snowing down here today only happens about every 10 years or so in my part of the state!!!(glad) Its a novelty for us!

I replaced my heater core several years ago and I don't recall seeing anything needing replacing other than the gaskets/seals for the core itself. As far as sealing, I would seal up the inlet and outlet of the core to keep whatever out of there, and this unit should be fine until you get time to finish it off. If you replace the evaporator core on the engine side of the firewall, you definitely want that sealed also. Good luck in Afghanistan and thanks for serving.
