I'd like to install these Chevrolet chrome or polished tall aluminum valve covers. My question on these tall cover's, they are 3 1/4 in. for the first 2 in. and go to 3 1/2 in. tall. I have tried to measure the clearance for my AC bracket on our 79 Vette and 3 1/4 might be very tight or not fit. The AC works so I do not wish to remove it, anyone use these covers, with or without any issues. It seems this cover only comes in a tall version.
Thanks
I have these covers, and they look great! I have an 80 with ac so I am not sure if you have the same ac brackets on your 79. The problem I had was the bracket that went from the ac to the manafold would not work so I had to install a taller stud in the manafold to raise the braket about an 1". Worked Fine!
I had same issue with the bracket on my 80 with tall valve covers, so I didn't even put the bracket back on (the one that goes over stock valve covers) .... the A/C is still on tight and I don't have any issues.
vetteguy75,
they look great, and so does your engine bay nice job. Thanks for the picture.
tomard,
I may have the same issue on our 79, I'll use an extended bolt if needed, or some other way. Thanks for the feedback.
Derby98,
I'll be ordering them from Kendall Chevrolet Inc. Eugene Oregon. They want $117.00 for a set of polished alum. and they will ship to me by USPS. Shipping cost and how they ship, is one reason I'm buying from them. Most want to ship UPS and I refuse to deal with them (UPS) to Canada. I'm not sure if I can post Kendall's 800 number, but if you would like it, just send me a message.
Thanks again to everyone for your help and suggestions.
Had the same issue with the A/C bracket and fixed it the same way. In addition, there is not enough travel to slide the belt over the alternator. To install the alternator belt I have to remove the pulley, put the belt on the pulley, slide it back on the alternator shaft, and tighten the large nut.
