Default Brake Line Blocks

I need to buy two new brass brake line blocks and a new proportioning valve for my 76. Lots of vendors carry them...but which carry quality ones?

I didn't buy a proportioning valve, but I got the brass break line blocks for the rear brakes from Paragon and they appear to be high quality and they fit very nicely.

Hope this helps.

Default Brass Blocks

The blocks are still available from GM, I just bought both blocks from my local Chevrolet dealer. Part numbers are listed in AIM. As for valve, they all seem to be import repops, I saw mine(1971) on fleabay from a vendor for $70.00.

Damn, I was hoping they wouldn't be imports. I would like to find one that isn't...

For used parts, I've used the NCRS Driveline magazine and called up people and dealers selling used parts. Also, some of the salvage yards. Im here in So Cal, so I have used J&D Corvette. They have a big stash of used C3 parts.

My 68 uses a distribution block. I bought a new one (repro) from Paragon. If you have your original proportioning valve, call Paragon. They may offer reconditioning services. I had them recondition my interior mirror and windshield wiper motor. (I've seen used 68 distribution blocks going for $200 on ebay.)

Curious how you can tell you need new blocks? I pulled mine and they looked fine but am thinking about getting new ones since I'm upgrading everything else.

if they leak, replace. when you remove old lines, you can inspect the inverted flare, but if the replacement lines seal, don't need new blocks. they're brass, so can be polished if you wish - will look like new

Mine look fine too, but the last thing I want to do is see brake fluid hitting the floor as I bleed the system...it just isn't worth it. I need to figure out where to buy them from, I just can't decide which vendor...the quality always differs depending where you go.

I installed SS brake lines and decided to get all new virgin brass blocks to help insure a good seal. I was willing to spend a few bucks to avoid hassling with a leaky connection. The brass block located slightly inside the frame crossover at the junction of the driver's side trailing arm is hard enough to get to with a wrench and you wouldn't want that block in particular to be a problem.

Come on guys, I started this thread to answer the question as to where to buy quality brass blocks and proportioning valves from...not whether you need to replace them.

i purchased mine from zip-products.com when i re-did all the brake lines on my 80. I had no issues, they were high quality, and no leaks. Been on for over two months now. and the price wasn't bad either.

Best guess is that they probably all come from the same place.

I guess I'll order mine from corvette central then...they have the fastest shipping to Canada and you don't have to pay brokerage fees.
