Everybody keeps telling me that it is just a monthly code where A=Jan and so on. BUT, according to even the few numbers we have so far, it looks more likely that it goes monthly from the start of production. That would mean A=August. Take your car for example. We know that build numbers 8231 - 10886 were built in February (where yours fits in). So the G08 would mean February 8th by the method I believe is correct.

It's the second way you list above, where A = first month of production. What might be confusing the issue is that A=January for the 1970 Model year because they delayed the start of production for 1970 until January. Almost all other years A = late summer or early fall. :) I don't have my NCRS book here to look up the dates. SOmeone else might have it handy though. ~Juliet
Hmmmm....
That seems odd.
Several sources for interior colors have been sent to me when I asked last week. They ALL show 402 as BLK Leather. None even show a code 403.
The 1970 codes do list 403 as BLK Leather though. I wonder if it's a misprint or carry over thing.
I should start a discrepancy area at the site for this stuff. Then if others come up with the same sort of problem we may find out something new.
I have not reg. yet. The site looks great and I plan to soon.
Have a question about engine codes listed on the 71 Registry site.
CJK 350-330 Auto
My 71 conv. TH400 and my brother in-laws 71 conv. TH400 both have the CJK stamp on the engines. According to the HP rating this would be an LT1 with an auto. But to my knowledge no such car was made. Could you give me some more info on where you got these codes? I know many things happened on the assembly line that were not documented. My 71 has LT1 valve covers, an LT1 emmission sticker (the sticker gives the timing specs for a manual car only - the auto spec says N/A) but the car has hydraulic lifters, and a Q-jet and all numbers match. GO FIGURE!
Wow - that does look very suspect.
The data comes DIRECTLY from the GM Chassis and Body Parts Catalog.
It clearly stats that code CJK is a 350CID / 330hp with a TH400 tranny.
But you're right - that really doesn't make much sense.
A secondary (non -GM) source says that it is a 350/270/auto.
I think it is a misprint in the GM book!
I'm gonna go and change it to 270 hp - that's gotta be correct.
Thanks!
OK - I went and changed that info over to the 270 hp version.
Now the question becomes:
What's the difference between and CGT code engine and a CJK code engine?
Why would they have two codes for the same engine/hp/tranny combo?
Anybody know what's up with this?

My guess would be that it was a running change during the model year. Once you get enough registered you may be able to pick up trends on the build dates and the engine code. I would bet that CGT started the year and CJK ended the year.
