Default Fan shroud removal

Does anyone have a trick to getting the fan shroud out without cutting it? The upper and lower control arms are out ,but its still wedged in there. 76 L82.

Unbolt the radiator support...3 bolts on each side..2 bolts on the botton and a center support rod on the bottom. Slide/tilt support forward and you may be able to remove the shroud...you may need to rmove the radiator and support as a pair.

Tap off everything..
Remove hood..
Remove fan..

Do a search...there be some good threads on this.

I only had to remove the fan when I replaced mine.

Yep! Taking the fan off free's up lots of space. It's best to take the radiator and the shroud out at the same time. Otherwise you risk bending fins on the radiator. Wouldn't mess with the support if you don't have to.

Default Shroud removal

When I replaced my harmonic balancer, I removed the fan, pulleys radiator and shoud.
My Brother-in-law said just work around the shroud, but no__ I wanted to take the shourd off to have more room. That ment I had to take the radiator out because I could not get the shroud out without damaging the radiator.
Well I must have done somthing to the radiator because it leaked after I got things back together, then a second time.
I am very fast at taking the shourd out and in. Next time I will put cardboard on the radiator to protect it!

I considered this to be one of the hardest jobs I did on my car. Here are a few tps from my ordeal:
1. Definetly add the cardboard as shown above. I did not do that on mine and I did some cosmetic damage to fins that could of been avoided.
2. Take the hood off. Mark around the hinges so you can easily line the hood back up.
3. Loosen the radiator support.
4. Take the fan off.
5. Wear gloves.
6. A helper on the other side will help to move the radiator.
7. Several $%^&* words were spoken during the process, I really don't think they helped but I felt better.
A tough job, but it can be done.

When I Removed Mine I Had Problems With The Old Weatherstripping That Sealed Between Rad And Core Support On Left And Right Sides. The Rad Wouldnt Slide Out Very Easy. But Loosening Core Supp Will Make It Alot Easier. If Its Auto Dont Forget Those Tranny Lines. Covering It Up With Cardbrd Is A Great Idea . Wish You Posted This Sooner

Tip: When reasembling the shroud and radiator don't forget to use the seals that go all around between the radiator and shroud. These seals are what forces air thru the radiator and not around the sides. Also at this time at least put in a new lower radiator hose and make sure it has the spring inside. These things may seem to be minor but can make a lot of difference in the cooling department. I got a quality seal kit from Dr. Rebuild.
Good luck
Steve
