Joe,
I answered a little earlier but the message went??? I tried high end but no luck. By now you will see that I got a reservation at the Super 8 Motel mentioned by Paul B. From the map it looks to be just north of "the place" in Enola. BTW, our bathroom was under construction...but enough of the past. Did you ever find out what went amiss in the front end of that 1973? black Vette that hit the guardrail?

Are you talking about the lady who posted right after Carlisle about how nobody stopped to help them when they were obviously in need of help?? I think she said the steering box (or some steering component) went out and the car just suddenly steered itself into the guardrail.

Another plug for the Camp Hill Raddison: Nice place, 2 yrs ago they hosted the NCRS PV in the parking lot, so there were tons of beautiful NCRS cars. Last year they were the official hotel of the LT5 registry, so lots of ZR1s in the parking lot (they have the best vanity plates!). I originally reserved 3 nites at $105ish? but cancelled and rebooked with my corvette club at something like $90. MJ

Paul I just booked two rooms at the Super 8.
The one in Harrisburg.
At least we know it's ok with Paul staying there the last few years.

This year was our first trip to Carlisle. Because of vacation schedules at work, we weren't able to book a room until July. We ended up in Harrisburg. Downtown Harrisburg. Not knocking the city, but not knowing where were going it was a room and thats all that mattered. Given a choice, someplace else would have been much better.
We've come to the conclusion that our idea of clean and the people that maintain the rooms are two different stories. I guess the only way around that is to get a five star hotel.
We found some good places to eat, you just have to ask around.
The only way to beat the traffic is to get up early and go. We had two teenagers with us, so it wasn't possibe. Ended up sitting in traffic.
All said, metting some great people and being in Corvette heaven overshadowed the negetive points.
Looking forward to next year.

I thought Paul Borowski was staying at the Super 8 about a block or two from Hoss's steak house & the go-karting place in Carlisle. I'm not sure where the Harrisburg town line is... you might want to see if you can get hold of Paul B though to confirm the address. ~Juliet

Hi Paul79, I just sent you an email. I would like say that we all were surprised by the accomadations in Enola. I had a few discussions with the manager about things but he really didn't care. I know Joe made the arrangements on the advice of someone else and was disappointed too. We made the best of it anyway and had a good time. I must say I didn't see many "good deals" at Carlisle either in parts or cars. We did meet a lot of the forum people there and that was worth the drive.

Yes, 1973 or so black BB with tip-up front end. She wasn't driving but decried the fact that even a police car passed by them. She said the steering box let go but...I have always been curious as to how a box can "let go." Thanks for the tip on Camp Hill. I have booked at the Super 8 but if I change my mind I will give it a try.

Do they have any rooms left for members of your other club to reserve under the first club?

I tried their site but they want about $159.00US per night which is a little pricey for me. Also they want my credit card number before checking availability and I have a fundamental problem with that. But thanks for the tip. I stayed there about eight years ago when it had a different name and it is very nice. That was at a time when Harry's restaurant in Harrisburg was still open. I loved that place.

No, Tom, the first reservation I made myself by calling the hotel direct. When I learned that my corvette club had a block of rooms reserved I signed up for a room with them and cancelled the resi I had made on my own...... hey! are you yanking my chain?? :) :)

It is kind of far (from Camp Hill) but it's a decent hotel. They have one section of first floor rooms that have 2 doors - one to the hallway, and a second door right to your parking spot, which gives you immediate access to your vette - nice. MJ

No I wasn't giving you the business :D

I did that at Carlisle with that counterfit CF shirt :)

I know ALOT of clubs reserve huge blocks of rooms then Cancel the extra the week before, I never reserve early, thats how I got my last 3 rooms, just hoping a club had some extra rooms, 2 years ago we meet up with a Canadian club at a rest area, we joined there club and got the discount :D :D

TRY PRICELINE .COM. I GOT ROOMS TWO YEARS IN A ROW, ABOUT A MONTH PRIOR TO THE EVENT. GOT MY ROOMS, $55 A NITE, AT THE WEST HARRISBURG RAMADA INN, VERY NICE PLACE, DINER NEXT DOOR, ABOUT 30 DRIVE TO CARLISLE.

LAST YEAR AT HE CORVETTE EXPO, I USE PRICELINE AGAIN. I GOT A ROOM AT THE CONVENTION CENTER. CANT REMEMBER THE NAME, IT WAS THE RAMADA OR RADDISON, FOR $65 A NITE. WHEN I GOT THERE, I CASUALLY ASKED WHAT THE RATES WERE. TRY $125 A NIGHT!

IF YOU GO TO PRICELINE, REQUEST TO STAY IN WEST HARRSBURG WHEN PROMPTED

Showfield Parking for Corvetts at Carlisle: $35

3 days worth of bottled water: $20

Those chrome lug nuts that I really didn't need: $40

Having grandparents who live on Boiling Springs Road: Priceless :p:

And for everything else, there's Mastercard :D

Here's my secret for transversing Carlisle: I found that the best way to Gate 3 is take either route 74 or 641 (Trindle Rd) west into Carlisle. Right onto college street, follow college almost to the end, and cut left to a T, then right for several blocks through the residential roads, sorry I can't remember the names right now. This puts you out directly across from Gate 1, where there's a traffic cop directing the flow. It only takes me about 10 minutes from entering Carlislse itself to I'm onto the fairgrounds. Using this method you are making only 1 right turn in heavy traffic at a stoplight, then it's all 4-way stops in light traffic until the traffic cop. From there it's only a couple blocks from Gate 1 to Gate 3.

So for you guys who are taking I-81 South, get off at the Trindle Rd exit. This is that funny exit on the east side of Carlisle that has no Southbound re-entry. For you guys coming up I-81 North, get off at the College Street exit and follow College St. A whole lot easier than the "normal" way.

Now when leaving Carlisle, going southbound on I-81 is easy by turning right out of Gate 3 and staying on that country road, following the other vettes :D until you see signs for I-81. This is a nice long stretch through the country. Going northbound, I would go back out to Trindle Rd to pick up I-81.

My $0.02

Guys, the Super 8 I am registered with is the one at Int 81 and Rt 11, I know it is'nt the "Harrisburg" one everybody is mentioning. 81 and 11 run parallel for a while and there is probably more than one. The one I am at is 1800 Harrisburg Pike just a minute north of PA pike. It is only a few minutes north of Hoss's. The Super 8 is directly in front of that large Roadway Trucking terminal, right side of rt 11 going north of Int 81. Phone # is 717-249-7000. It is virtually all "Corvettes" there during this weekend.

Paul, thanks for the update. That Super 8 is Carlisle/North and not Harrisburg/North where I am registered. There are no vacancies there. Sooooo, I may start again.

You might also try hotels in the following areas, just as close to Carlsile as Harrisburg:
1. Camp Hill
2. Dillsburg
3. Shiremanstown
4. Shippensburg
