A local guy is selling a 68 vert. 4spd 65k original miles, black top, blue with blue interior, new seats and carpet #'s matching 350 not a frame off restoration but a clean drivable car all the vacuum system are suspossedly working fine, with a clean undercariage. He is asking $21k. Is that a good price? Thanks
Well 68 was a unique year in that some parts were 68 only. But you say numbers matching. The 350 didnt come out till 69. 327 for 68. Is ther any paper work to back up the mileage? Reason I ask is at 65k original miles the original carpet and seats should be in reasonable shape. Not to rain on you parade but these were my first thoughts
If no rust, everything matches, everything's there & working and both paint & body are good or better ... you won't go wrong at that $. Any decent paint & bodywork is expensive these days for any car ... but especially for fiberglass/corvette. Major rust drastically reduces these cars' value.

It could or could not be a good price depending on the condition of the frame and birdcage. The 68's are a unique year because they have quite a few 68 only parts on them and can be quite pricey depending on supply and demand. If this one's a turnkey car and it comes up clean you'll save yourself time and grief and will be able to enjoy it from the get go. I'm about 70% done with the resto/rebuild of a 68 vert and will be glad when it finally hits the street.
Good luck in your search and if you can, post some photos of your prospective purchase. The 350 is not original to the car but in my book it's not a deal breaker either. If you like the car and it's a good fit for you buy it and enjoy it like it's your last day.
Sounds like a decent price if it's clean and original. As was stated earlier no 350 cu in until 69. If it's a 350 horse it's a great motor.
Could be a 327 ci 350hp engine. If so, it could be the original. If its a 350 ci then its not. Get the engine stamp code and check the paint code and see if the speedo works to see if the milage is accurate. If its a driver then it could be 165k original miles.
Sorry, if its not the original engine and original paint $21k is a little too high in my book. But thats just me. Good luck
sounds dubious....but then again I am a skeptic. 65k miles in 40 years....hmmm; should look more or less immaculate...and why would you change the engine anyway?
$21k sounds a bit much for something that's not original.
My '68 has 60K original miles. Not many do but there are many reasons that it could be true. Also have a '73 XKE with 48K with documented recopts to explain it. Both are rare but very possible.

If the car is all original, has been garaged all its life, has been well-maintained, then $21K is not out of line
But definitely take someone with you that knows his stuff about Vettes, I believe there's several in your area on this Forum that will do just that if you ask
Good luck and hope all goes well....always good to have another 68 on board

Possible?...yes, still good reason to be skeptical.
I'd venture to say there are more 160k mile 68 vettes or 73 XKE's out in the market then 60k (miles on frame, not rebuilt speedo ) rarities that have been babied and garaged most fo their life. Still, I agree its possible, but worth being skeptical.
Now of course we all know the actual miles on the frame is usually different then the miles on the engine and the speedo/odometer. One or the other has often been rebuilt or "pursuaded" during its life time.
When I speak of miles, I mean miles on the frame b/c thats what doesn't get changed and travels every foot of that cars life.
