Default tire sizing

I went to 16" wheels on my 77 and now I need new rubber. I know the current tires are a little undersized, height, at P245/50zr16. What would be a good size to get me back to a stock stance and accurate speedometer?

Thanks

I went with 255/60-15 and that is as big as I can go without hitting. look up this tire and you will get the diameter and with and just cross refference. Make sure your back spacing is the same as stock or you may have problems.

Anybody get a 265/55-16 in there? It looks like they are only over by .100". I already went through the back spacing thing when I bought the wheels and had to add stand off spacers, yes they are the bolt on type, so I should be set.

1tuffref,
What size tires did you have on the car, or have now.

Size now 245/50X16 = 25.6 in. tall

The best size would be,
225/55X16 = 25.2 in. tall

Ok, I found it. the original tires, factory, were 225/70-15 so the original tire diameter was 27.4 inches. It looks like the best fit to get me to the correct diameter on my 16 inch wheels would be a 265/55-16 tire that has a diameter of 27.5 inches. My question is has anybody put these on their car?

Default Same problem here.

I have gone with 16"'s as well. I ended up fitting 235/50/16's front and 255/50/16's rear. We really need a 55 series tire. BUT you cannot get there. There is a truck/suv tire, but whats the point? I might lower the car a touch or go back to 15's? I have a tire calc so I can compare diameters. I don't know if 255/60's will fit well, any opinions?

I was looking at 16" wheels/tires but as you said tire selection is poor in 27" diameter. I think a 255/55 is the size you want. One choice on Tire Rack.

That is why I am going to 17". Better tire selection.

Just looked again and found these. 235/60 16. It would be interesting to see how the sidewall looked on these on a 8" rim.

They ought to work just fine, as that should prove to fall right in the middle of the recommended rim widths, the height should be 27", and the tread about 8.2".

I'm going with the 235/60-16 size. It will be an improvement on the ride height I have now and the suspension needs a total replacement anyway. Maybe next summer. The diameter is off by .30" and I can deal. I ended up with the 16 inch wheels because I wanted centerline champ 500s (with the spinners) and they don't make them any more. I ended up getting them off ebay w/rubber and lugs for under $800. Trust me after I got them polished up and on the car I was very happy with the look. If I could have found 15" wheels the right width I probably would have gone with them but I was looking for a long time for four and couldn't find them. 17" wheels is this style were not even on the radar.

I'm running 235/50-17's (26.6" tall) on 17"x8" wheels and they look good, so I would think 235/60 would look fine on a 16"x8" rim.

This is the only picture I have right now, ... regretfully, its not very good.
