That's one of the best oil articles I've read. The Mobil1 web site has a chart that includes the ZDDP levels of each or their oils. If I stick with Mobil1, I am switching to one of their motorcycle oils.
There are lots of oils out there that contain enough ZDDP. A few examples are
Mobile 1 High Mileage
Castrol GTX 20W-50
Castrol GTX High Mileage 20W-50 or -40
And all diesel oils no matter what brand. On older engines we need ZDDP and the new oils GF-4 grades do not contain it.
This may sound odd and I'm sure some may argue, but I've run diesel oils ever since the government made oil companies lower or remove ZPPD (zinc) without issues. My cams and internal componets are fine, no signs of abnormal wear, only because of the higher ZDDP in the oils I use. Todays oils are not meant for our older engines
Next time your at your auto store, pick up a bottle of diesel or a high mileage oil and read it's contents, racing oils are also good.
Does anyone have any in depth knowledge regarding the oil additive "ZMAX? I watched a segment on "Speed" and they hyped it up which is no surprise. Just wondering if it is what they all say it is. Thanx all.

Two things, I do not believe in any additives, they are products we really don't need and a company likes sales. (my 0.2)
Second, ZMAX is an additive that the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) sued for false or misleading advertising of their product. This takes me back to my first reason, it's not needed and most aren't or do what they say.
[QUOTE=69small block;1563915456]where can you get redline.
Jegs or Summit....you can even go to Redline direct....That's all I use in my Vette n Impala......Jerrylee///
Thank you very much for the info. I "was" a believer but when I went to the local Autozone ands saw the 35 dollar pricetag for the additive, I decided to come back to where I knew I would get the right answer. This forum is awsome!!! Thanx again everyone!!!
Never use additives.....It's a big con...Jerrylee///
Except ... GM EOS ... it has the additive pack(wear metals) that're missing from most modern oils. Flat tappet lifters require the missing pack ... roller lifters do not. Rotella T 15W-40 WITH a bottle of GM EOS is good for flat tappet breakin ... thereafter straight Rotella ... or your pick mixed w/ a half-bottle of GM EOS. Yes, newest Rotella (CJ) reduced wear packs in 2007, but there's still plenty there in CJ.

i was told by a local speed shop that GM no longer sells E.O.S.
a friend called the Chevy dealer and asked, there reply was, they no longer sell E.O.S.
A recent article in Auto Restorer said that STP engine oil additive has a bunch of ZDDP in it - more than enough to replace what's missing in modern oils.

I last bought some from local GM just last year (2007) ... maybe it was old stock ... I've since heard GM still sells it but its part number has changed ... but have not verified w/ local GM.
"new" Rotella AOK ... it was reduced but only slightly ... diesel cats not like gas cats ... new Rotella 15W-40 CJ4 still has plenty of wear additives.
EOS p/n did change from old p/n 1052367 to new p/n 88862586
