I have a 79 and I cannot get the door open. The car is a t top so I can get the top off, roll down the window and get at the door latch with a long screwdriver. I can move the arm that goes to the door handle but I can't move it all the way to open the door. Also the can be moved part way.
It's hard to describe but I had the same thing happen to the door on an old Chevy truck and was able to get it open eventully just by playing with the handle over and over.
It feels like the door partially latched or something so you can move the door about a quarter of an inch and then it hits the post with a thud. Again moving the lever on the latch that the door handle connects to results in the lever moving partially up but it stops before the full range of motion.
Has anyone had their door behave this way and if so how did you open it?
Not sur if I had the exact problem that you describe. I had my door not wanting to open and found that the lock was ingaged and the rod to unlock the door came off. I had to use a screw driver from the inside to relaease the latch. If you door is locked as mine was and has come disengaged it will act like your door seem to.
Take the door panel off and move the locking and opening rods back and forth by hand. That should free up the latch, if it doesn't you will be able to remove the latch with the panel off.
No, thanks to the windows not quite going all the way up I can get the T top off and get in. I will try pulling the panel from the inside, the one screw kind of sits under the roof pillar but I think it can be done.
I just thought there was a trick I might use to pop it open without that.
