Have any of you guys cracked your rear U-joint?
I have a 72 LT-1 350 rwhp
3:70 rear ...4speed...Hard tires!
I did yesterday.
I popped the clutch and let it fly. However the car caught and the U-joint cracked. Then I heard a noise like the rear wheel came off the car. It didnt. The half shaft was free and spinning like crazy!!! It damaged the shock and cracked the fiberglass where the battery sits...
I guess with the added HP something is going to happen!!
Put in solid Spicer ujoints and tha tshould solve the problem. I have been running them for a few years now with no problems. 409 RWHP has not broken one yet.
Happened to me shifting into 3rd at the 1/4 and the U-joint let go causing beaucoup damage (~$3,500). Was very loud, and unnerving, when the half shaft came into the car.
I had the mechanic replace it (along with a bunch of other stuff that was damaged) with a U-joint with no Zerk fitting (a weak spot).
