73's do not have a wiper door. The hood extends over the wiper area hiding the wipers.
The "wiper door" that you are describing under the vent on you're hood could be the cold air intake diverter flap. This was hooked to the accelerator pedal and under heavy acceleration the flap would open to alow the intake of cold air.

Thats it! Was it stock on a 73? If so I'm trying to get the parts for the acuator to have it open, any help would be a plus, THX!
The cold air flap and actuator was a stock item on the 73.
You should also check that your air cleaner has the upper ring and the gasket that fits between the air cleaner assembly and the hood for the cowl induction to work well.

I think it was stock on the 73 to 75's. Make sure the door works before you put the upper ring on the stock air cleaner. Otherwise, you'll choke off the car on heavy acceleration.
