Default 200R4 question

I was looking at possibly putting this tranny into my '74 L82, and i found one for saile out of a 86 SS Monte Carlo. They are selling it for 150 dollars and was wondering if this is a good deal, and how much a good rebuild would cost. Also what additional costs and modifications do i need to make to put this in my car? Thanks, any input is highly appreciated.

oh, if anyone wonders... VETDRMS is the plates on my '74 ;) *smiles*

My first auto tranny rebuild was a 200R4 that I paid $125 for. It is a pretty good transmision although you may want to look into the ratios before you buy it. Most people prefer the 700R4.

The rebuild was easy, just keep everything in order as you take it apart and then put it back together (with new soft parts) the same way and it will work great. Parts (excluding torque converter) are probably around $100. Rebuild manual will be another $15-$20.

Thanks, know of anywhere i could find the gear ratios for an '86 SS Monte Carlo? TCL makes one for $1200. Isn't it more difficult to install a 700R4? Sorry, i just don't know a lot on the subject, such as linkage mods and driveshaft/yokes.
