HI,Does anybody know if i can fit a manual (stick shift) 5 speed gearbox into my 76 vette.I know about the keisler tremac, what i am after is, is there another Chevy gearbox that will fit?example: Can i buy a kit which adapts say a chevy blazer or a C4 6 speed gearbox or due to space limitations etc am i stuck with paying out $5000 for a tremac? Anybody adapted another gearbox to a c3? Thanks
Do a search here for 'Ford' 'T5' 'Swap.' It's a Ford T5 out of a Mustang. You can get them cheap, and the install is fairly easy. Lots of guys have done it and you get a good over drive manual transmission. The total investment is right around $1,500 if you can get a cheap transmission.
Bunch of us have, I've done a 6 speed. A junkyard 5 speed should be an easy swap. Do a search.
What 6 speed did you use? out of a C4? as for the Ford "T" 5 does it fit the bell houseing also what about the tail shaft? any links to information on how to do this would be much appreciated. I think given the choice i would go for the 6 speed if i dont have to chop up the interior to much ha ha.Thanks
I used a T56 out of an LT1 Camaro. Had to pound out the driveshaft tunnel, cut a hole in the floor and fab my own center console. Along with my own guage bezel for an electric speedo.
I would think that a 5 speed out of an earlier F-Body would be an easier install. You would just have to find a flywheel that bolts to your engine and works with the 5 speed clutch setup. All SBCs and BBCs use the same bell housing bolt pattern, early to new. I think even the 4.3L V6 shares the same bellhousing. Do a search.
