Installed a spool differential (3.73 gears) in my '68 this week.. Went from a 4.11 posi to a 3.73 spool in my Tom's 12-bolt setup.. There was no major effect on the ET's but I didn't expect a huge difference. The main benefit of a spool setup is strength.. I was initially worried about making turns with the spool, but after driving around the pits a little bit, I didn't see a major problem. Turns just fine... Of course, you can feel some resistence when making turns but it's not too bad..

Aww c'mon....I'm spinning the 540 higher than that! Let's wing that thing a little!!

The engine is built to hold up to 8000 RPM but I really want to get some life out of it.. The engine also peaks at 6000 RPM and falls off after 7000 RPM. Long stroke small blocks don't like high RPM's too much.. It's not like a 377 (4.155 bore and 3.48 stroke) that revs to 8000+...
