74 corvetes came with a 2 bolt right? Is it worth storking it out to a 355/383

AFAIK it could be a 2 or 4 bolt, but either would be fine. Some feel that factory 2 bolt blocks are actually stronger, but it really doesnt matter with a street engine. A 355 is just a .030 overbore with a stock crank (3.48 stroke); a 383 is actually stroked with a 3.75 stroke crank.

Unless you race or boost, why would you need a 4 bolt main block?

Can you get us the block number of the engine you have? Using the number we can look and see what main design it used.

First thing....

NEVER a question will be "stupid"..
OFTEN an answer can be "stupid"..


Second thing....

2 bolts with good ARP Main Studs can be a good bottom-end for some 450 horses or more..... unless you will spray the engine!!!!

well heres the number on the block3970010

i was thinkin bout doing cams, heads, rebuilt the engine and supercharge it.
heads and cams from trick flow
maybe a summit crank and piston combo with all the gaskets
and a weiand supercharger the one for just under 2 grand. (if anyone else knows a low profile supercharger id be interested in knowing)

OK, with a supercharger I would like to pay attention to your bottom..... may two bolts are on the edge!

that block can be 2 or 4 bolt. Drop the pan to check. I bougth a '73 350 with the same number not long ago, in my case it was a 2 bolt.
