Got Another Ride In A Big Block...
I called him up and asked him to give me a ride in it. Before we went for our ride I asked him what it ran....turns out it runs 11.51 @ 120+ mph on balding 275/50-16 drag radials  . When he nailed it we were instantly gone and I was pinned back in the seat. He spun like hell through first gear and whenever he banged second gear with the Hurst rachet shifter it started layin more rubber and wanted to go sideways! He nailed it from a dead stop and before I knew it we were at 120mph. He slowed down to about 40mph, tapped the breaks and pinned the gas pedal to the floor. When he did that we started fishtailing and laying rubber like there was no tomorrow.
I can honestly say that I am envious. I shouldn't have mentioned anything about big blocks to him and let him get that 351 :( My time will come soon enough :) (spring time).
There's nothing like the torque of a big block!
You be careful out there. It's nice being "19 and loving it," - and we all want to see you make it to 20! Regards,

Yes we made it, -but not everbody did. I have lost more than one good friend in automobile accidents, and I have a permanent back injury to show for my "hot rod" days. Let's all enjoy these cars, but be responsible at the same time; and set good examples for the young guys who love these rides as much as we do. -Nice meeting you on the forum.

In my case......I do use my brains now......then........well  :blueangel:
No arguments from me.........please don't anyone think that I was implying that drivers don't have to use their brains now and then.

No, I wasn't implying anything, I was just talking like I would to one of my own kids. Hope we haven't messed up bence1333's topic for him, but to paraphrase something you just said, I think we need to use our "brains" as well as our gas pedals on this forum once in a while. Kind regards, Nice car!

Yes he does have a few bucks to spend, doesn't he  I believe Jeg's has that crate engine listed at $8,000 + Freight. That price doesn't include the C6 transmission, Hurst Rachet Shifter, Ford 9" Rear End, Subframe Connectors and Fiberglass Ram Air Hood either!
First "test drive" in my BB was on an on-ramp to an interstate. There was no-one in front of me, no-one behind me, and no-one on the interstate. The ramp was an "up-hill" ramp- RT 46 to Rt 80 eastbound in Budd Lake NJ. 1st... 2nd... 3rd... 4th... easy 95mph. Then I downshifted to 3rd and dumped the clutch... cooked the rear tires. My knees were shakin' so hard I went directly back to my shop. Tried unsuccessfully to wipe the smile off my face for 6 weeks. Drove around the town in my 327 66 Roadster just to calm my nerves. heh heh

When I think of what we did in our 20's.........how in hell did I ever make it to my mid-50's?

My mechanic, at the time (great wrench-twister), loved my 435. He worked on several race cars, but didn't drive any of them. One evening, he asked me over to his house to set the valves and to "tweak it a bit". I thought, okay I guess, although I don't think it needs anything. I didn't clue in to what was up until he asked if I'd mind if he just took it for a little drive from where he lived, down to Thickson Road and then onto Highway 401.
I said, "Sure". (Sidenote.....he's the last person I ever let drive this car!!!!!)
So in he gets.....I'm in the passenger seat........off we go to Thickson Road. At the time there were no storm sewers on this road.......just BIG ditches.
He says, "Mind if I punch it?" I figure, he works on lots of high horsepower cars.....I've known him for years......why not!
So as we're doing a 360 spin I'm thinking, "Did we have a beer or didn't we????"
We ended up with the driver's rear wheel hanging over the ditch...a stalled engine......and one very shaky driver.
A driver, that had been in front of us, quickly came back to the scene and proclaimed, "All I saw in my rear-view was headlights spinning in circles! What the hell happened back here?"
The other guy helped push us back on the road. On the way back to my mechanic's home, all he said was, "For God's sake, don't tell my wife how close I came to destroying this monster!"
He never asked to drive it again.............and he always had an odd look in his eye whenever he popped the hood to work on it!
P.S. He scared the :bs out of me too. Oh, by the way, we never did make it to the highway!
