Default Plug Wire Help

I did an extensive search on the forum and have my AIM book on order. I bought new plug wires and was wondering If I will need to go under the car to re-route the new wires as they were from the factory. Also do I need to remove any of the shielding? Can all routing be done from the top of the motor without removing anything. Thanks Again.

Its a huge pain in the ***. You will have to get under there to take a bolt out of the lower shielding to get the old wires out (unless you cut them) and get the new ones in.
I deleted all that stuff and routed them on top

NO!!! Dont take the easy way out! It looks so much better when they're run properly. Its more work but the results are worth it. So what, you have to remove some sheilding and work underneath. A 7/16" socket or 2 is all it takes.

1. You need to run the front 2 wires on each side through the motor mounts. This can be done without unbolting them. Lub up the distributor boots with silicone lube, slide them off and the wires will feed through. Re-install boots.

Front wires go through lower 'boomerang shield' and clip into the oil pan clips...my car didnt have the lower boomerangs...

Through the motormounts:

Oil pans clips:

Neatly routed to the cap:

I didnt. I put it up on jackstands. From the bottom everything is as clear as day. The only thing you need to do from the top is feed the front 2 wires through wires through the motor mounts. You'll crawl under there and say, 'dam, this isnt to hard'!

The ig. shielding is for reducing radio noise. No radio or using spiral core wires allows the shielding to be removed.

I like the wires underneath - remember heat rises.

Do it the right way. It is a PITA, and takes more time, but the end result is much better.

If you are going to install original style wires, then take the time to route them in the factory ignition shielding, which can be easier fron undernear in some areas of the engine. It may take you an extra hour or two, but it looks good and works right. Have fun!
