I have a $4k budget to build/purchase/rent/steal a small block for my 75. Looking for the best bang for the buck. The car will be a Sunday driver, no track planned, but want plenty of power. General specs would be 350+hp and plenty of torque. Would like to fit under the stock hood. I am okay with a crate engine or building myself (with machining by local shop) or buying used. Open for suggestions.

The ZZ4 383 should come in under your budget. GM Performance and I think YearOne have the best warranty. This would be a direct bolt in with your existing componets.
I just picked up a 383 crate engine from Derebery Moters www.dpmpower.us. Cost was $4k. I saw them dyno it. HP was 455 and torque was 461. Great bunch of people to deal with. I'll be dropping it in the '74 in the next couple of weeks
Year One is selling a 400+ ( i think 410hp, 425tq) crate for only $2990. Then you still have 1k to play around with. Theres another thread on here recently about that engine. Everyone seems to like it.

dk - very nice looking engine I may give him a call, thanks.
Grandsport - that is alot more engine than I am looking for plus a long sunday drive is difficult on that gas.
