Default Divorce choke rod

The choke rod on my divorce choke carb popped off and snapped the choke closed while I was out cruising around yesterday. No big deal, as I've had this happen once or twice before... just put the rod back into the thermostatic spring and I'm on my way again. Trouble is, this time it didn't just start right back up like it usually does.

What could possibly have been damaged when the choke closed suddenly while driving?

should be nothing damaged other than whatever is causing the rod to pop out. all it may need is a little bending on the end of the rod to get a 90 degree bend, then the length of the rod will need adjustment. choke rods out of adjustment, binding, whatever, can cause hard starting . . .

Just took it apart and put it back together (the carb), the linkages aren't binding, so far as I can tell, and nothing appeared wrong internally aside from the float being incorrect for the carb. (which I replaced with the right part)

Still not starting. Killed the battery trying to start it. Might just be low on power to the coil (HEI coil in cap)?

Fuel supply is good, Carb isn't flooding, Fresh gas...

All that happened was the choke snapping shut and now the damn thing won't start/run.

Alright, got out there, charged up the battery a little (jumper cables to a running vehicle) and tried again. It's getting PLENTY of fuel, but there doesn't seem to be much (if any) spark. Think it could be fouled plugs?

With the choke closed you might have flooded it trying to restart. Pull a plug. If its wet you have your answer.

I was thinking more along the lines of fouling from it having run rich for so darn long before I fixed my carb troubles.
But even with fouled plugs, spark should be able to jump from the distributor cap to a spark-plug wire, right? I'm not getting any evidence of spark at all.
