Default wheel back space.

i am ready to order some weld draglite wheels for my christmas gift to myself. does anybody know what back space i should order? i will double check of coarse, but does anybody know off hand. the choices are:

15X8 with 3.5" backspace, 4.5" and 5.5" backspace.

the stock wheels on a 79 are 15X8s correct?

and for the front i am thinking about the 15X3 1/2 with the 1.75" B.S.
or the 15X5 with 3.5" B.S.

what do you think i will have to do for the front ones? i am gonna need a spacer huh?

Your stock 79 wheels should be 15x8 with 4 inch backspace, we'll use that as a base line. the 15x8 with 3.5 will stick out 1/2 inch farther than what you've got now. The 15x8 with 4.5 will stick in 1/2 inch further that what you have now. And the 15x8 with 5.5 will stick in at entire inch and a half futher than what you have now. 5.5 isn't possible on the back without offset trailing arms. Regardless of what size and backspace you get for the front, they are gonna look like they're stickin in way too far so i'd go with the 15x5 with 3.5. That will keep it more normal looking.

Also, I should mention that I was able to get 5" backspace on the front with a 17" wheel. Check your clearances on the back wheels espically at the parking brake cable.

Yes the stock backspacing for a 79 was 4 inches and also the wheels were 15x8's.

i got 15-8.5 on the rear with 4.5 back spacing and 15-4 up front with 1.75 back spacing upfront i had to use a .25" spacer on the rear to clear the calipers the front was perfect but ever wheel manufacturer is different so be sure to check ur backspacing and be sure of it because once you order a custom backspacing the wheels are yours for good with most manfactures   oh almost forgot the important thing mine do not stick out at all the are perfectly even with the rear and they are in just about an inch up front u cant hardly tell it though
