Default Steering column question

I was going to install a Jeep box in my car but decided to keep it stock. I had tried to move the steering shaft up into the column with a few wacks of a hammer with a piece of wood on the shaft. It did not move at all. This is not the reason for my not doing the install. Know that I am going back together the steering wheel is very stiff turning. Like I jammed the bearing in the column. What is the procedure for the lower bearing replace or just freeing it up. Have any of you that moved the steering shaft up had this problem. It turns but not very freely. It used to spin easily, but no more. Just one more delay in getting it back together.

Never mind. It must have just jammed slightly. A little work with a small pry bar and it loosened right up. Now I can go back to the install.

I just rebuilt my steering column (77 T&T) for my 76. Looking at the way the column is set up, you either broke the colapsable section or busted the delicate bering races.

You might want to pm Jim Shea for some assistance, and he can probably shed some light on my probable incorrect prognosis. Sorry about your woes.
