1968 wiper motor wire colors
The factory harness plug has red, black and brown wires. All 3 of the rebuilt replacement motors that I have tried have red, black and white wires. The original colors for the motor were red, brown and blue wires.
The original hookup was Motor Harness
red red
brown brown
blue black
My opinion is the 3 motors I have tried may be boxed as 68 but they are in fact for a later model in light of the fact of the way I have had to wire them to get them to work.
If anyone has further info I would sure appreciate it.
When you get a chance I would appreciate knowing what your cars wire colors are. These rebuilt motors are obviosly wired internally for later model vettes and not for 68's, even though they are sold and boxed as being for a 68. Thanks for the help. Tom
Thanks a bunch, your photos answered my questions about the wiper motor. Your motor is obviously an original 68. What colors are the wires that go into the 3 wire plug from the motor? That photo got cut off, I'm curious what colors in the motor plug match up to the red, black and brown in the harness plug.
I sent an e-mail to the rebuilder and got a reply this morning and what they are doing is using a one motor fits all mentality. They switch wiring to get them to work on 68's as well as the later models.
Thanks again for your most detailed and appreciated response. Tom

........................................ .......__<---Brown
The engine harness plug is Red ---->l l<----2 Blacks
......The wiper motor plug is Red --->l l<----White
........................................ ........__<----Brown
That is Brown to Brown
Red to Red
and the white to the 2 Blacks.
Is that what you needed Tom?

Thank you once again, that's what I needed. The motor is supposed to shoot 12 volts down the brown wire (harness side) which causes the wiper solenoid mounted to the back of the tach to dump the vacuum and allow the wiper door to raise. The motor I have is not doing that.
Most informative and helpful. Could I interest you in a trade, your car for mine? You'll get a bb vert with non functional wipers and I'll get your beauty with functional wipers!
Now I must find a 68 only wiper motor that's wired and functions correctly. Tom
Glad I was able to help you out Tom.
I believe I heard here on the forum that you can get a wiper motor at PepBoys or AdvancedAuto for about half what I pais for this one through one of the Vette only suppliers. You might want to check that out.
BTW, have you posted any pictures of said BB anywhere?

I have gone through 3 of those Pep Boys/Autozone type motors trying to get one to work. I bought them from our local NAPA store but they are all rebuilt by A1 Cardone. Cardone's tech support e-mailed me a couple of good diagrams that I'll check out tonight. If the motor still doesn't work correctly it will get sent back and I'll plan my next course of attack. There is one on e**y for 650.00 guaranteed to be 68 only and to work, but oh boy on the price!
Said 68 is not quite ready to be viewed by the world yet, she/it is about 70% done. Engine, tranny, rear end, suspension, brakes, wiring and paint and body are all done. The interior and top are left to do and work out some of the other kinks like the wiper motor. I'm very happy the way the color turned out. It has 2 coats of black with 4 coats of cobalt blue on top of the black and 3 coats of clear. The paint changes hues depending on the light.
Well thanks again for your help on the wire colors. Tom
Here's a rebuilt at Eklers for $145. I'm sure most of the other catalogs have the right ones too. You can send the difference to me.

70% done, hell your way overdue to be posting pictures my friend
I just found another one on ebay for 150.00 it's a rebuilt original and the guy guarantees it's for a 68. I'm almost tempted but if it's not right there's the hassle of returning it. At least with the NAPA units they have been most gracious and tried 3 times. I'm going to give it one more shot playing with the wiring as the diagrams I got e-mailed show a different wiring configuration that I haven't tried yet. The closest I got was high and low speed but the motor would not come out of park.
My car looks nice until you get to the interior, it's bare in there just a bunch of wires hanging down, a brake pedal and shifter. I have all new Al Knoch interior and top in boxes just waiting to go in and a tilt column when it gets to that point. Then it will be photo time.
Thanks for your continued interest in my wiper trials and tribulations! The offer to trade is still open for a bit. Tom

You would be better off looking at the one for the 1970-72 cars. There are test on this link that you can use figure out your problem. While the wire colors changed, the link below should help you with the problem

The problem being encountered is the wiper motor will get high and low speed but will not come out of park.
I have double and triple checked all of the wiring on the car and it's correct. The wiper relay is also new. In bench checking the motors the same thing happens, both speeds but stays in park and this is using the diagram off of the forum. One thing I noticed in the bench checking procedure the red lead does not hook to anything. Put 12 volts to the black lead, and the center terminal on the block under the washer pump, put a ground to the housing, ground the white lead and the two outside terminals on the terminal block and remove #3 for high speed, remove #1 and the motor goes into park but wont shut off. The red lead is not connected to anything during the test.
Do you sell 68 wiper motors, as it would be nice to move onto another phase of getting this car on the road. Thanks again to both Willcox Corvette and DZRick for the help.
wiper motor---engine harness
red--------------red
white-----------2 blacks
black-------------brown

Thanks for the reply with the colors. Those are the colors on the rebuilt motor I have as well. What has me baffled is the black wire should have 12 volts on it to activate the wiper solenoid when the motor is turned on (it's on the brown wire), but it doesn't. I was able to get the motor to run on low and high speed but when you switch to the off position, the motor goes into park but won't shut off.
The answer is out there and just needs to be found.
Thanks to everyone that have replied, the information supplied has been most informative and helpful. and is most highly appreciated.
I remember back in the late 60's and early 70s when I was in the biz I remember that on some motors that would have to be kinda like calibrated to get them to park for the first cycle. I think this was even done on the bench. It also involved using a cotter pin to do the alignment.
Sorry I don't remember more cause I am in the same predicament. Maybe this will jiggle something loose in someone elses mind and we can solve this proplem.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
