Default Clay Bar Question

Anyone have any experience with a clay bar? I'm considering the treatment in order to improve the finish on my '81, which has the original (charcoal) paint. What product should be used after the clay bar, wax or polish? Does clay bar treatment leave swirl marks in the finish?

Zaino Brothers. Get the whole package including the clay bar. The stuff works if you follow the process they outline.

Yup...clay bar then Zaino.

Claybar didn't swirl my paint...well...any worse than it was already swirled. ;)

I have used Meguiars clay bar for a couple of years now, and love it. Cleans the paint up nice.

Use a mix of water and Zaino Z-7 for the best result.
If you keep the clay bar and paint moisturized it wont leave any streaks.
I tried it dry and there were minor streaks, but they disappeared with the Z-5 swirl remover.

ZAINO is the best paint treatment I ever had!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give Meguiars a try, then use polish.

I've never heard of Zaino nor seen it in stores.

I have clay barred all my toys-it works great. You won't notice too much difference on a newer car, but an older one will surprise you how much smoother it will be. I have used Meguiars clay bar and thought it was a piece of s%#*. It smeared my paint, stuck to the body edges, and it is too soft, as your fingers will push right through it. And yes, I know how to properly use them. Somebody on this site said they(Meguiars) admitted to having problems with them. The clay bar that Zaino sells is exactly the sasme as the Wizards brand, which is excellent. Just keep it lubed up and as you keep working it in circles, you will feel it get smoother! Good luck.

http://www.zainobros.com you can order from the web site.
Wizards-I don't know if they have a web site yet but here is a phone#
Wizmar Int'l Inc 1-800-356-7223 Minneapolis, MN
Just found the web site-www.wizardsproducts.com
Wizards also has a "Multi-Fiber" detail cloth. This works EXCELLENT with their "Mist and Shine" spray. It doesn't leave ANY lint. It works as well with Zaino "gloss enhancer". Both spray products are GREAT(did a head to heads comparison ). P.S. Wizards clay bar was cheaper(same product). Hope I helped.

I've used the Mothers Clay bar system, followed by Meguair's detialing polishes and cleansers. I couldn't be happier w/ the mothers or Meguair's stuff. I wish they sold zaino at some specialty store. I can't justify switching b/c i'm 110% satisfied already :)

The only clay bar I've used was from Zaino Bros., but maybe this info applies to them all.

First, my understanding is that the clay bar is used to remove solid particles embedded in the paint. I should have been more diligent with bug & tar remover, but the clay bar will remove tar too (mucks it up fast though).

Also, I thought I've read that the clay bar will remove wax (some or all) so polishing after is a good idea.

You want to make sure you keep a clean clay bar surface on the paint so check it often and once you see it getting dirty, manipulate it until you have a clean surface to use.

You can use car wash, but since the clay bar is supposed to remove some or all of the existing wax, I went ahead and used dish detergent (great at getting most waxes off) as a lubricant.

Oh, don't use the clay bar when the car's surface is hot. Shouldn't be a problem in Illinois this time of year ;)

I'm not sure how much the clay bar removes, but I do think my paint felt smoother (maybe it was wishful thinking).

Hope some of this helps.
