Default Power window problem

My passenger side power window goes completely down with no problem, but when I go to put it back up it stops short by about 3" from it's complete travel. I can pull it up the rest of the way by hand, but it's a PITA and I'd like to fix it. The window also has play - going into the car towards the seats and back out towards the door handle. Has anybody run into a similar problem?

The windows do that for 3 reasons:
Worn Rollers
dirt and dried out grease in the tracks and on the rollers
Misalignment because someone tried to " Fix it" in its long history
the real fix, is dissasembling the thing, cleaning the tracks and regulator up, replace the rollers, lube and reassemble and adjust once and be done.
The roller kit is about $25 I think from Wilcox, Ecklers etc..
It will require 1 long afternoon and several beers and bandaids

Very similar issue on my 78. This weekend did both sides of removing, cleaning and lubing with white grease. Both work great now. If they are original, you'll have to drill out the 3 rivets on each door to remove the regulator and replace with bolts/nuts. I am lucky to have access to a mig welder so welded the nuts onto the back of the regulator - makes reinstall very easy. The experts say you can remove and replace the the regulator with the motor attached - I couldn't make it happen, so you need to use the safety bolt to hold the regulator while you have the motor removed until you get it out and can put in a vise to release the spring slowly.

I thought that another reason for that was a worn or misadjusted regulator spring, the spring is there only to assist the upward travel of the window.

That a fix for that is winding the spring a little tighter .......can anyone verify this??

Mine is doing the same thing as the original posters (I installed a rebuilt motor a while back) and if this is a fix I'll tear my door down again.

Thanks!
