Default stereo mounting question

I know this has been covered many times before but after searching and reading lots of posts I haven't found out what I need to know. I have an after market stereo I'm installing. I bought a DIN type instrument cluster (the old one was broke in a couple of places) to mount it in. I'm not quite sure of the best way to mount it. Has anyone documented their install? if so, maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks for any help,
Robert

The radio should have a basket around it that can be removed. The basket usually has top written somewhere on it. Place the basket with the top side facing top of radio bezel and bend tabs down or up to secure in radio bezel. Slip radio through from the front and it will lock into position.

I have the basket you mention and I see the tabs. So I don't have to support the rear of the unit?

thanks for the help,
Robert

You should support the rear of the unit. The radio should come with a back brace it looks like a ruler. Option 1 Mount it to the back of the radio and you can bend this brace so it mounts to the factory location in the console.

Option two is to bend this brace underneath the radio so the weight of the radio sits on the brace. I would go with option 1

Mount the factory bezel in the car and then attach back brace bolt last

When an after market stereo is installed in a Corvette, the back of the head unit comes to a final rest just an inch or two over the transmission tunnel. The easiest and best way I have found to support it is with a block of foam stuffed under it. It'll take the weight off and acts as a vibration suppressor.
