intake question

Default intake question

I just checked the part number of my intake on:

I have:
3963569 1970-71 396/402 375 L-78/L-89 454 LS-6, lowrise

It sounds pretty good to me. I know I am way undercarbed (600cfm Holley) but I want to know if this is a good intake for a tight budget? Is it worth keeping or is should that be on my list of upgrades? Is that a Holly bolt parter or a quadrojet (spelling??). I havent checked to see if the peice between the carb and the intake is an adapter or a spacer. It says that it's a rectangular port intake. I thought that my crate motor was not. Crate motor info:
12550313...454.......91-up...4-bolt, Gen.V crate motor, Gen. VI 4.25" bare block, fuel pump boss.
Any idea if these heads are rectangular or do I have a mismatch? Is that possible?? I can't find the casting number on the heads. Where would that be??

Your head casting numbers will be under the valve covers unfortunately. Depending on what you want the engine to do will decide if that's the intake for you. I would normally put the rectangular stuff in the very high street/racing category, with the large oval port stuff in the street strip category. I'd deffinitly pull a valve cover and see what you have for heads, this would be a big determination for me If I wanted to keep that intake or not.

I pulled the valve cover and found the part number. It is:

14097088. They have double valve springs and some sort of brace between rockers that says high performance. Checked out the number on http://www.mortec.com/bbc.htm and it crossed to :14097088...91-up...rect...OPEN...Gen.V 454/502 HO. This looks like really good news for me. My mystery motor appears to be a 454 HO. I checked the codes on the rear end and they were 3:36 gears.



I guess I am back to the original question. Is the GM intake a good one? Any idea on what kind of HP we are talking about with this combo??

Just bought some more parts to put on. Zip 5/8th sway bar, moroso spiral tube mufflers and a 4 qt oil pan.
