Default draining radiator question

OK, I feel kind of silly so please be gentle on me. I need to replace the water pump on my 76. I don't see a drain **** on the radiator. Is it hidden up under the shrowd, or is it to be drained in the "whoosh" method of removing the lower hose?

Question? Where is the darn thing?

Thanks,
Jeff

My 72 SB has the drain **** at the very bottom of the radiator on the passenger side, favoring the inside of the engine compartment. Dropping the lower radiator hose will expedite the draining of the block. I will suggest, however, that to totally drain the engine you need to remove the drain plugs that are on the side of the block, just behind the engine mounts. You will have about 1 to 1 1/2 quarts of water residing there. Be carefull with the plugs because they may have never been removed.

Just a plug on my '81 as well, believe it's a 9/16" wrench size, and if I remember correctly, believe it's a brass plug, passenger side as well.

Suggest use of new brass plugs when you go back together in both radiator and engine block. Had to remvoe spark plug shields on my '81 to get at the block plugs, a little more work, but really should be done when flushing out system. Have seen a lot of crud come out of these block drains on some engines over the years, have even seen some where you had to stick a wire or screwdriver in the hole once the plug is removed to dislodge the crud and start the flow of coolant!
