Default Question for those with VBP front mono spring

I have had miine on for over a year now. I have noticed that the turning radius is not what it used to be. Up on the lift I was running it through its full travel of steering and it bumps into the bump stops far before ant tire clearance problems would exist. I could just trim the bracket they have welded onto the arm some to get more turning out of the car. Has any of you done this? I have a buddy that has the same setup and he also commented on the reduced turning radius. It would be an easy fix but I don't know if the VBP did this for a reason. Can't get to the tech line until Monday. Anybody help on this???

LOL!!! Now I know that my thoughts are correct as I thought the same thing after my install last summer. I did not want to say anything as I figured it was my mind playing tricks on me with the new suspension setup, etc. plus I have had a ton of other items needing more immediate attention. I am finally just getting back to my regular little annoying quick project fixes such as aiming headlights this morning. Ugghh!!! I would be curious too if it would be possible to re-weld the bump stop into a different position. I noticed this trying to park the vette in my condo's parking garage that it just did not seem as sharp as it use to turn.

Why would you need to reweld it. It looks as though just a trim of the bracket might allow the steering knuckle to move in more of an arc. It looks like just a 1/4 inch piece of steel. I was wondering if you had this problem as our cars are very similar.

I just took care of that problem. A little work with the sawzall and a little grind to smooth it out and we have good turning radius now. I took off 3/16 of an inch off the bracket. I'll shot a picture in a minute to show but I still have plenty of tire clearance all around. I don't know why they would limit the turning radius. I can go a little more if needed but I think this should be enough.

I installed rack and pinion and the front monoleaf kit at the same time. I was blaming the shorter steering radius on the rack. Now I need to get under and take a peak. That may be also the reason my 255/60 tires don't rub.

Here is the picture I took. This is after the cut. The tape measure hits a flat spot just above the bracket. Before cutting I was at 1 5/16 after the cut I am at 1 1/8 so I took off 3/16 of an inch. I have not driven it yet as I have no exhaust on the car right now but I have been through a complete sweep of the turning and I still have plenty of tire clearance.

This came up a few years back and I think it was VB&P sugested taking some off of the stop. I don't remember how much they said to grind off but it wasn't much.

I had the same problem when I installed mine. The fix is to cut off some of the stop. I believe I cut off around 1/8 to 1/4 inch off each stop. Cut 1/8th off to begin with and check that the tires do not contact anything at full lock. If you're OK with that setting leave it alone. If you still want less turning radius cut another 1/8 inch. In the end my turning radius was the same as the stock setup.

I may cut more but I will go a little at a time. Easier to cut off than add on.

I cut 1/2 of the length off this weekend and the results were amazing how much tighter the car turns. Thanks for posting about this as now it makes manuevering my car in the parking garage and doing u-turns so much easier.

I still might cut another 1/4 off as I still have plenty of room even with big tire/wheel setup on the front. I am running big tires on the from 245/45/18 which are 26.5" tall and are on 18x8" with 4" BS.
