Timing. When was the last time you checked the condition of the distributor, and had the engine timed. A Lars carb rebuild is also suggested when doing a timing and tune.
First, make sure the accelerator pump is working properly. If it is, then make sure that the secondaries aren't opening to soon.
could be the timing but it sounds like an accelerator pump, When you mash down on the accelator then your air/fuel mixture is way off, your engine gets flooded with air, without enough fuel, so your engine bogs good luck
A little more initial advance will help your throttle response. If this doesn't cure the problem all together (it probably won't) you will then want to look at the idle mixture adjustment and the accelerator pump shot. If the engine idles smoothly, idle mixture adjustments probably won't do much good but it needs to be looked at.
This is the process:
1) Set the initial timing at 12 to 16 degrees BTDC. You may need to make adjustments to these numbers to get 36 degrees total timing. Remember, initial+mechanical=total timing. TOTAL TIMING IS THE IMPORTANT NUMBER!!!
2) Back the idle mixture screws out evenly until you get to the highest idle RPM. Now, turn them both in evenly until you get a 50 RPM drop (25 RPM per side) from maximum RPM. This is a good clean idle.
3) Now, look at the accelerator pump. It is very possible that the problem is gone by this point. This is why you want to do the others first before looking at the accelerator pump.
Yes the motor idles smooth and i believe the timing is set not sure how far advanced,I will have to look into everything everybody has mentioned. If I slowly get on it it's ok. Thanks for all of your input.
I've had this problem before and it was the secondaries opening too soon. There's an adjustment somewhere for it, but it's been so long since I've worked on a Q-jet, I don't remember where.
