Good morning guys/gals,
i am running a 383 stroker in my 77 and having problems with engine ping on pump gas. If I mix in 4-5 gallons of cam 2 fuel to a tank of gas I have no problem at all. Its a 383 stroker with gm perf.fast burn heads and we have figured the comp. ratio to be around 11.5 to 1 . The current head gasket thickness is .042 I have been told to change the gasket to a .075 thick gasket to reduce the compression 1 point. Any thought or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a good one and thanks in advance.
Increasing the quench can sometimes have an adverse effect. That is a lot of compression, what cam are you running, doesn't sound like it is allowing enough dynamic compression to bleed off?
You need to check your total timing. Fast burn heads dont need a lot of advance.
No way would I put .075" head gaskets on it.
Do you know what the deck height of the pistons are?
If its a stockish .025" or so, a thinner head gasket might actually help.
