Hey guys,
My father just gave me his 82 corvettte. He didnt have room for it anymore since he got an 02 vert. and didnt want to get rid of it.
Whats the best way to get some more power out of this car? I dont want to go too crazy with it, just looking for some basic stuff.
Here are a couple of pics
The best size for an avatar is 100 x 100. Square pics look best so nothing gets chopped off.
As far as cheap power you have a few options. You should do some research about your Crossfire injection system. There is a forum just for that system called the Vault I think. Lots of info there for tuning it and modifying the computer and timing.
Bolt on stuff would be like changing your stock exhaust to 2.5" true duals with better flowing mufflers. Maybe Magna-Flows.
Nice Gift! BTW Im in Alpharetta and Work In Marietta, I also own an 82 Vette. There are several threads about increasing HP with the CFI system its not an easy task but can be done Ive researched it and with out spending a ton of cash you will top out around 300ish hp with out heavy mods. The key is flow. Port the intake, bore the TBI units go with a mild cam upgrade to keep the computer sane and better heads oh and a high flow exhaust system. Best bang for the buck is to change the rear end gear ratio. I am going with a 3.73 with 300 hp and the OD tranny it should be fine. Let me know if you need any help with TBI balancing etc....Ive got the tools and the know how. Been there done it. Have fun.
When you hit the crossfire forum, check out my threads on TB mods, manifold porting and so on.
I have a couple of pieces left. If you are interested contact me via e-mal.
Hmmmm, what pieces :-)
I followed your single idle control valve setup...cool stuff, would love to have that. I bought your tool, fuel pressure setup and throttle position tester setup....what a huge help all of those items were. One nanometer later and it's all been smooth sailing.
Nice Vette! I'm just down the road from you in Woodstcok (Towne Lake) and have an '81 that I'm about to start a body-off rebuild on. Lots of C3s around this area!!! Three that I know of in my neighborhood alone!

Glad to see some local atl people on here! Thanks guys!
I think you are absolutely right Bluesilver! Changing the rear gear ratio will be the best bang for the buck. The car is 100% original right now so I kind of scared to get too deep into mods. I think I'm going to start with a gear swap and exhaust and see how I like that. I still need to get the A/C fixed so I'm sure thats going to be fairly pricey?
1981Z06Vette do you go to any car shows around the woodstock area?
Where do you guys have work done on your vettes? Most stuff I have no problem doing myself, but the gears and A/C I'll have to get someone to do.

They onely time I have taken my car to a shop was to have the new tires put on. However I have spoke with A guy named Mark @ Supertech of Powersferry Rd. He owns his shop and back in the day raced up at Dixie Speedway. He owns a 77 L82 and seems know his stuff. He like working on old muscle ( just finished a rear suspension and rear end rebuild on a 69 vette and he has a couple of others in his shop now. He is really reasonable with what he has quoted me. So when I am ready for the motor build and replace the rear end gear, he is going to do it.

You have me confused with DCS. They sell the stuff you bought. I'm not assiciated with them in any way. The little TPS pigtail is also available from painless wiring, but most people set their TPS with WinALDL these days.
I did the system mods like single IAC, bored TBs with balance port, ported manifold, ball bearing TB shafts, etc. Those are my threads.
By 'pieces' I mean ported manifold, Ball bearing shaft TBs, that kind of stuff. I'm considering making a pair of 2.375" crossifre TBs with functioning balance port, but there are not a lot of crossfire engines that can use over 1,000 CFM, and there is no point in building ptototypes if they cannot be tested and used. They would be awesome on an Offenhauser crossram.
Anybody interested in this kind of stuff would need to contact me off the forum.

who needs ac...take the tops out and leave the windows down! lol...If its all stock. I wouldnt mess with it just enjoy the car for what it is worth if it is a low mileage documented car. Me my car is mostly original but has 121k on the clock and has absolutely no documentation other than the build sheet which is still on the tank. However I am saving every piece that comes off the car so I will have all of the original parts and it can be put back original at some point and time.
just my 2 cents

Its 74K miles on it right now and is all original. I dont know about you, but I need A/C! I went several summers without it in my mustang and it sucked!

LMAo. I can understand down here. I am lucky when I bought my car the AC had been redone and has the new coolant in it.
