Default Hood Alignment

The space between my hood and the finders is just right, but the hood on the driver’s side sits about ¼ of an inch higher than the fender near the windshield.

It seems that the driver’s side hook that holds the hood down should be adjusted a ¼ inch but for the life of me I cannot see a way to adjust this.

There are no spaces to remove or adjustment to the hood locking mechanism.

What am I missing?

Thanks

My 77 has spacers under both of the latches that bolt to the hood. Sometimes you can alter the fit by moving the rubber bumpers around that sit in the channel between the hood and fender.

On my 81, I see the bumpers and they would work fine to raise the hood but I need to lower the hood and it looks like my only option will be at the latch. But cant see how.

If you have no shims and the hood is still high, something is probably wrong, but you can help the situation by taking the loop off the hood. Place it in a vice and hammer it down a little. This shoud help, but you will probably have to reposition the latch.

I was thinking about putting it into a vice. Is there a way to adjust the latch?

Too Funny... I just did this today for the same reason and now it latches down faired with the fender. Took the latch off held it on the floor with grips and wacked it with a brass malet (2X's)

The latch adjustment is only side to side. If you bend the loop, you may have to slide the latch around to align.

Another way rather than bending the hook on the hood take it off and put it either on a grinder or bench sander and sand or grind the flat surface that goes closest to the hood

You guys are funny talking about wacking vette parts, however, I have the exact problem so I guess i will be wacking away myself. My 78 has the hood high on the pax side about .25 in. Glad I read all this as I have tried to figure out how to make the adjustment.

first , is it stock

a lot of after market hoods are actually mad from molds of molds.

Could be the same thing with the front or you might have had some body work

a lot of shops will trim or shim to make them fit
