New starter wont 'start'?
Couple of minuets later i disconected the battery to put it on charge and as i removed the negative terminal i heard the starter 'click' again?
Went underneath to check the wiring connections etc all looked ok but the solenoid felt hot.
It seems like the solenoid must have binded and only released when the battery was disconnected even though the ignition was off?
No shims where in place with the original, so i installed the new one with none.
I've just been out and shifted the the bottom pulley a little and i heard the starter gear 'ping' back. Tried to crank it again with the ignition- only a click again, another click when i disconnected the battery, then again moved the bottom pulley to hear it 'ping' back as before?
As mentioned above, it may also just be a bad solenoid on the new starter. I have had one of those before too.
Before i re-connected the wires to the starter/block etc i sanded all the connections/mating surfaces for good connection.
I shall check for any wires crossing etc at the starter tomorrow.
Right now im guessing its the gear binding on the flywheel though and maybee wants shimming. I purchased 3 new shims back when i bought the starter.Every manual i have just says re install same amount that came out, no mention of actually setting it up?
Does anyone have any info on shimming the starter/checking clearances etc? or is it just a case of stick one shim in at a time and try it? :-/
Will go over them connections first though.
Checked for voltage at the 'S' terminal on solenoid- fine,
Tried jumping the two terminal- still didnt spin.
Removed my new headers- pulled the starter to bench test it-
The gear is moving out but not spinning, looks like i got sent a bad one
So that was a waste of time and money
Bought from a large US corvette parts supplier from there catalog, had it shipped to the UK.
I like the way it says on the box "premium quality remanufactured"
"All units are 100% tested to assure compliance with oem performance specification"
Well if thats the case then why dont it work!!!!
Not happy- like mentioned above- what should have been a two hour job turns into an all day'er
