It's been 10 years but as I recall I had to drop starter on one side and disconnect the clutch linkage on other side to install my Hedmans. Not a big deal. Use 3/8x1" Allen bolts instead of header bolts. Steve
I just installed hooker competition headers in my 1982.
I didn't have any clearance issues with the starter, and my car is an automatic so there was no issue with a clutch.
The big difference you'll notice with installation is the shape.
The shorty headers are shaped like the stock header, i.e. collector pointing down.
The long tube headers curve back towards the rear, i.e. you have to cut some of the tail pip off.
I noticed a bigger difference in sound (deeper and more of a rumble) than i did performance. But i did not replace anything but the headers, so I have free flowing headers with a 3 inch collector being reduced to 2 1/4 pipes.
