78 L82 engine question
is the L82 engine in a 1978 pace car the same L82 engine put in the std.corvette of that year? I have an advertising clip from that year that states; exclusive to the L82 pace car engine would be forged pistons,special heads,& cam and 4 bolt main. are these specs correct,and are they the same for all L82s of that year? also,what other years was the same L82 engine setup & specs the same????

forged pistons
4 bolt mains
2.02-1.60 valves
screw in studs & guideplates
Aluminum intake
2 1/2" exhaust (after the manifold)
dual snorkle air cleaner (which became std. in 79)

The reference may have been to the actualy Pace Car used to pace the Indy 500. There is some question whether the engine was a stock L82 or whether it was tweaked to sustain the high speeds.
